I hired Annie Francis as guardian ad litem (GAL) for my son, expecting her to advocate in his best interest. Unfortunately, that did not happen. She failed to follow up with my son’s pediatricians or teachers, made a life-changing custody recommendation based on an unverified assumption that I was homeless, and never communicated those concerns to me beforehand. She did not visit my home or speak to my son’s current or recent school staff. I only learned the reason for her recommendation after the fact, during a private conversation. Her lack of communication and follow-through caused unnecessary upheaval in my son’s life. Additionally, I was unexpectedly threatened with contempt over fees that were not court-ordered, and my request for itemized billing was ignored until the last minute. Her conduct was unprofessional and did not reflect a child-centered approach. I would not recommend her services to any parent seeking a truly child-focused advocate.
