After my divorce, I was faced with isolation from my children, culminating in a frantic defense against a motion for full custody. Part of the the expensive and emotional trial process required three mediation sessions. We were assigned to Layne Davis. Arriving prepared, Layne first created a safe and inclusive environment and then focused on clarifying perceptions and mutual concerns, and then guiding collaboration and analysis on previously hidden solutions. Regrettably, the matter didn’t settle, but not for the lack of skill and effort of the mediator. While maintaining professional and impartial standards, Layne truly understood and empathized with the obstacles from both sides. Creating, for the first time in a lengthy, expensive and painful experience, a sense that hope was not just wishful thinking.
