This post is 17 years overdue. (2003) I was newly assigned to Fort Bragg. I drove past an unguarded check point (that did not look like the check point as it does today…there was no stop line and no guards there…thus I had no idea I was off post. I was a student only being resident on post for 6 days and went to St Mere Eglise for my first jump with JFKSWC. The MPs on duty were in a shack off to the side sitting on the floor with an air-conditioning unit plugged into a small generator. They panicked when they heard my vehicle drive by and called it in as if I charged the check point.
