Donkersloot James A Attorney at Law, located in Zeeland, Michigan, is described by some clients as having a friendly staff and providing great service. While there are mixed reviews regarding specific legal outcomes and interactions, the overall sentiment highlights a welcoming environment. However, some clients have expressed dissatisfaction with certain aspects of communication and professionalism.
My brother hired Mr. Donkersloot in the summer of 2023 to handle a sibling buyout regarding our deceased father’s property. The property has a mobile home for which we had no title. Mr. Donkersloot insisted that the title needed to be cleared in order for the sale to be closed. I insisted (on good authority) it did not, given it was going to be a cash transaction. Turned out that not only was Mr. Donkersloot’s assertion inaccurate, he also dragged my father’s name into the mud when I argued that the title did not need to be cleared because it was personal property separate from the real estate. He said, and this is a pretty close quote: If your dad had taken care of this it would not be an issue. He did not know my dad and he had no right to make such a comment about him. I was so stunned (and hurt) that I could not say anything at the time, but I did email him later…the contents of which he shared with my brother even though my issue was not with my brother but him. At closing he said that the title did not need to be cleared, but he never admitted he was wrong. So, at closing I gladly signed an agreement that the sale of the property legally gave possession of the mobile home as well to my brother, and that was that. Mr. Donkersloot never apologized for his error or for the disrespectful, unnecessary comment he made about my dad. Based on this experience I would not use or recommend his services. I waited to post this review because I wanted to make sure it came from reason and not emotion.
This guy stole a legal document from me. I wanted to see if I could get a consultation. He acted like he was going to be giving me legal advice and printed copies of my paper work and then said he couldn’t help me. I told hm I was not comfortable with him having that infromation ad he responded with “you already gave it to me and I need it for my notes.” I stood there for ten minutes arguing with hi begging him to give me back my paperwork and he said he printed copies and that he wanted to keep them because I met him and then refused to return them and proceeded to kick me out of his office.
Great service
