Weatherley Law, located in Mechanicsville, Virginia, is a law firm that specializes in criminal justice and family law, including divorce cases. While some reviews express dissatisfaction with Doug Weatherley’s communication and billing practices, there are positive testimonials highlighting his determination, understanding, and legal mastery, particularly in child custody cases. Many clients appreciate his compassion and commitment to achieving the best outcomes for families, making him a recommended choice for those seeking an attorney with a genuine concern for their interests.
I originally though he was doing such a horrible job because he was court appointed. After reading other reviews, it turns out he’s just really bad at his job. Don’t expect him to return calls, respond to emails, or do any work, at all. He called submitting evidence of innocence “paying games with the court”. I do not believe he ethically passed the bar. He doesn’t seem knowledgeable about the law. I was fortunate enough to learn this early on. So happy I fired him & found real representation elsewhere.
I share this because I don’t want this to happen to someone else. I was afraid of lawyers, afraid of being financially taken advantage of. This was, unfortunately, what happened in my experience with Doug Weatherley. I wish I had read the reviews prior to meeting with/retaining him & actually heeded those reviews. Doug charged me for services unrelated to the retainer I signed for without making me aware ahead of time. He charged hundreds of dollars for simple emails that only took minutes to read/respond to & charged an outrageous amount just receive an email on my behalf (no response on his part, literally just received an email). He charged me to forward emails that I didn’t ask for him to or know that I was being charged for. Then, after knowing the retainer I had struggled to come up with was gone/literally wasted by his immoral actions, he asked for more money to retain him for the matter he had already began charging my prior retainer for without my knowledge/consent. I had asked him for his help in that second matter until he asked for more money & I saw the statement showing where my money was wasted. I truly thought he was forwarding those emails on the unrelated/unretained matter as an act of kindness. I was wrong and I paid for it. It was devastating to put trust in someone & need help then have them do this. I will be very careful in the future & take time to research more carefully when selecting an attorney.
The worst lawyer I have had done business with in over 35 years in business. Will never return calls in a timely manner and if he does only after the deadline is over. Don’t waste your money he will ask for larger deposit than he says he really needs but it’s gone in a flash without any results to show for a clear waste of money. You are better off running away from this lawyer. If I could have given him a zero I would have. Very chaotic in his thinking but trust me will not forget to bill you when he thinks of your name. And once you find out that he hasn’t done something correct he will charge you twice. Long story short , I would not even Recommend him to my worst enemy.
