While I’m thankful I kept the custody of my children, I have to caution others about my experience with this attorney. I was advised to sign a quit claim deed without requiring my ex-husband to refinance or sell the home. This attorney’s mistake led to long-term damage—my ex defaulted on the mortgage, filed for bankruptcy multiple times, which effected my credit. As a result, I couldn’t purchase a home for years. Even after becoming a licensed Realtor, I faced significant challenges securing a mortgage because of signing the quit claim deed —working with five different lenders before finally qualifying for an in-house loan. Even now—over 20 years later—I must submit my full divorce decree every time I buy a property. There’s no legal remedy to fix this mistake, and I’m still living with the consequences. Unfortunately there is no law that could fix it now as the bank is not party to the divorce.
It has been more than a decade since my divorce, and upon reflection, I am grateful for the exceptional assistance I received from Andi and her team.
