Alvin Spitzer represented me in 1996 for felony possession of marijuana. It wasn’t legal then. I received a public defender who everyone in the courthouse clearly hated. The district court judge made a joke about my charges because I was studying plant science at UMASS and growing a few plants at the local golf course where I worked. The judge in superior court, however, took everything entirely different. He told me “plead guilty to the felony, and I will give you 5 years probation and 200 hours community service. That’s the best deal you’re going to get, take it or 7 years in jail”. (LIE)
