As someone who had never experienced a divorce, I put my faith into the supposed expertise of a $500 an hour lawyer. My psycho ex-husband had systematically taken meetings with every decent lawyer within Westchester, so I was relieved when she was available — should have been a red flag. At our initial meeting, Ms. Hoffman SEEMED compassionate, knowledgeable and proactive. Divorce is a stressful, chaotic and difficult process and I looked to her for guidance in every aspect. Little did I know at the time that Ms. Hoffman had essentially “phoned in” my case.
