Marquez Sergio, an attorney based in the Bronx, New York, has received mixed reviews from clients regarding his legal services. I contacted Mr. Marquez via my Employer Assistance Program about a concern that my landlord is trying to tack on additional rent increases that are not legal in our rent stabilized building. He called me back the next business day but when I asked him my question he was rushed, abrupt, and dismissive. I suspect that the landlord is counting on tenants not understanding the 421A program and that Mr. Marquez (as a TENANTS ATTORNEY) would easily be able to explain to me what is and is not allowed to be charged. Without asking any follow up questions he told me “I don’t know anything about that” and told me to call the DHCR.
The only reason he gets 1 star is because he could not have received a lower rating. Whoever is thinking about hiring this person, please listen to me and do not hire him because you will regret it. You are much better at representing yourself as I learned this the hard way. He made my situation much worse due to him refusing to hear what I had to say when trying to explain to him the situation. It is clear he doesn’t know how to manage a case, he can have all the evidence needed to win the case but doesn’t know how to use them. Before hiring him with the evidence in our hands we were sure to win the case but he ended up refusing to use this evidence and threw away the case in court. This man does not deserve the title of a lawyer as I do not know how he in any way qualifies as one. He won’t listen to you or use the evidence in his favor and throw away the case. Please once again I warn anyone reading this not to hire this man who will just rob you of your money.
Not sure if this gentleman should even be called a lawyer. I quite literally ended up defending myself and negotiating a resolution to my own case. Extremely lazy work and does not keep records as required by law, did not even provide copies of case resolution. 1 star is actually being nice.
