I had been putting off applying for Medicaid for a very long time. The process in NJ seemed daunting. We are originally from NY. When my mom moved to a memory care facility I had no choice but to apply. The spend down was going to be met within a few months and I needed to act. I was still struggling whether to keep my mom in NJ or move back to NY because the facility has many challenges and couldn’t make up my mind to pull the trigger. I had hired a geriatric specialist because of the situation and needed some guidance. The geriatric manager helped to search for a Medicaid service and she gave me two Google results. The first one I called but they didn’t have good reviews. The second one was Callahan. I was comforted by their reviews and called them right away. I spoke to Geraldine about my fork on the road situation to go back to NY or stay and she shared she could also help with NY application if it came to it. I really felt Geraldine was honest and professional from our first conversation. I signed the contract and we were on our way. Her staff, Darlene and Lorianny soon contacted me with next steps. I started collecting all the paper work and submitted little by little. Darlene and Lorianny answered my questions, contacted me to make sure I didn’t miss their messages and I met the deadline to get everything submitted. We didn’t hear back from the Medicaid office and it made me very nervous but Darlene kept me up to date on follow up calls. Finally they heard back and to my surprise it was approved quickly. It was the right decision to hire Geraldine and her team. They have followed up with me after the approval, making sure I understand next steps, that I receive the Medicaid and HMO cards, that I have follow up numbers to contact offices for corrections, etc. I couldn’t be more grateful.
