We contacted Jenni Hargis Law after the contractor we hired to remodel our attic took our money then ghosted us. She advised that since these types of legal issues can be complicated, she charged us $500 for an hour consultation. Ms. Hargis was very personable when sitting down to discuss the specifics. It was obvious (and she admitted it), however, that she hadn’t looked into the information we provided until we came into the office, so she wasn’t familiar with what happened. After discussing our case with her she advised that we really didn’t have many options going forward, because the contractor has a history of never showing up for court and moves so often – that no one knows where he resides. She proposed that she send a “demand letter” to the contractor. We decided then to at least have the demand letter sent (she had someone who would find him). We also thought we may take him to small claims court for at least some reimbursement (though unlikely he’d ever pay) so it is on record and to, hopefully, keep him from doing this to another person. She asked that we give her information regarding when we wanted to cancel the contract and what he owed us. After sending her this information we received another invoice for $190 (which we paid immediately) for our email correspondence and then she ghosted us. No mention of a demand letter or finding the contractor’s address. We just threw away ~$700! I would look for a different attorney if you want someone who is truly interested in servicing those who have been defrauded.
