I would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere! I hired a lawyer to help me with a DUI case and was treated very poorly by the Malek Law Group. I paid a flat rate for my DUI case that was on par with other law offices I contacted… I would strongly urge people to call around and find a different lawyer, as Jake Summers is not a respected lawyer in the Teton County Courthouse. The office staff did a good job of convincing me that the Malek Law Group was a good choice, but they were wrong!! I had Jake Summers as my attorney. He repeatedly told me he is new to criminal law, which does not ensure confidence, and proved to be a handicap in my case. Any contact I had with Jake he seemed unprofessional and he did a poor job answering my questions. I expressed my dissatisfaction a few times throughout my experience but repeatedly was convinced that what I was experiencing was normal and I was in good hands and my lawyer would get me a good outcome. Jake repeatedly undersold my case to me saying that it was very typical, and should have a good outcome and not to worry. I was not prepared at all for my sentencing and what to expect. Jake told me that I would be eligible for a withheld judgement which the judge denied. Jake told me to expect no jail time, minimal fines, and possibly probation. Essentially, the advice he gave me proved to be incorrect, and didn’t prepare me for court. I can honestly say that I would have been better off defending my case alone. He did not take any time to get to know me or my case, and did not advocate for a better outcome. He didn’t even know how to pronounce my name, or what I do for work at my final sentencing hearing… he had none of my personal background and was ineffective at speaking of my character. He used very simple statements that the judge obviously dismissed, such as “She is a really good person” and “this is her first mistake” so of coarse he didn’t get me a desirable outcome. Jake Summers did a poor job representing me, and also was very hard to contact during and after my sentencing. He has been on vacation twice in the time it took me to be sentenced, and didn’t inform me that he wouldn’t be reachable during those times. The law group wasn’t able to answer my questions during those times either. I thought the Malek Law Group was under contract until I have completed my sentence, That is what Jake made it sound like… but again, I am afraid I was duped by his inexperience as I found out the contract was terminated the day of my sentencing… that information would have been good to know so I could move forward. Absolutely do not recommend. I am in no way trying to say that a DUI case should be simple, but in the grand scheme of things that a lawyer could be hired for, I feel I should have had a better defense. I felt that I was treated unfairly based on the judge’s bias against Jake Summers, which I understand now because Jake Summers is very bad at his job. Please save yourself, and look for criminal defense elsewhere!!!
John Malek Law Group has been good to work with. I would recommend them to represent on your behalf. They are very easy to work with.
