I called Mr lempert from Washington state prior to hiring him and discussed my case and price ahead of time. When I came down to the jail I had my girlfriend call him and he wanted 700.00 just to come and ask me the same questions we discussed up in Washington. He had forgotten everything we talked about just a week prior. That’s the only time in over six months that we discussed the case. Every time I called him he goes ” and what’s this about” then tells me he has to go by the office to get my file, which he never did!! Ever! Then wants to go to preliminary without talking to me.
Very experience lowyer
This is a review from a 20 years ago, take it for what it is worth. I hired them to defend me on a felony marijuana charge. The charge was HS 11359, intent to sell marijuana. The initial Public Defender had told me that I would have to plea guilty to a felony and would get no additional jail time, only what I had already served and community service followed by two years formal probation. I did not like the prospect of becoming a convicted felon so I sought out a new attorney, which ultimately was Dennis Alan Lempert. Long story short, but after going back to court with a DAL attorney representing me I was offered the exact same deal which I was urged to take. I was FINALLY told that the charge was a non alternative felony in Santa Clara County which meant I was not eligible for deferred entry of judgment which would reduce the felony to a misdemeanor after 18 months if I stayed out of trouble. It is partly my fault for not looking into it more initially but that is why I hired an attorney, they are suppose to know the laws, which I believe they did. They were shown the entire police report before I hired them and they told me they could definitely help me. Unless they were entirely incompetent, which I don’t believe, they knew full well they could not get the charge reduced. They said they could help, and they did, they helped themselves to my hard earned money, that is it.
