Very professional and personable. Very honest and upfront about questions and concerns but at the same time also had a way of seeming empathetic towards my worries. I had Eric as my court appointed attorney yesterday and I’m very blessed that I did. There is a lot of negative opinions of court appointed lawyers and I’ve always been told to seek out my own private attorney. However, that was not financially possible for me. I was being charged for a hit and skip. I had just left the ER with my two children who were there after being very sick. On the way home my oldest was throwing up in the back seat and my youngest wasn’t far behind after seeing her sister. I was overwhelmed and I pulled out from. Stop sign not having seen the car that was approaching from my right side. Luckily I barely tapped her. I pulled over and got out to check on her and to assess the damage on her car which only ended up being a small barely visible scuff. Now, mind you, I now have 2 crying kids freakin out in the back seat with vomit all over both of them. I explained what had happened and even showed her what was going on in my back seat and asked her if it was okay to just go about our days since there was no damage or injuries but she insisted on calling the police.(which is completely in her right and I’m not saying she’s the bad guy. I only asked her because personally I wouldn’t have wanted to sit around and get the police involved and go through that whole process over no injury no damage let alone making 2 sick children covered in their own vomit deal with it) At that point saying I was overwhelmed was an understatement. I made sure that I had saw she had gotten my license plate number and was sitting in my car for about 2 minutes when it all just was too much and unfortunately I made a bad call and I decided to leave. All I wanted to do was get my poor babies home, (which was less that a quarter mile away as this had happened on my road) clean them up and get them back in bed. Now when I was called by the police I didn’t try to deny or get out of it. I went down to the police station and signed my ticket and awaited my court date. My first court date I was enlightened that I could get a maximum of 6 months in jail. So obvious I was freaking out especially not being able to hire an attorney. So my second court date I was terrified. Mr. Kibler came out and introduced himself and I asked that I could speak with him before he talked to the prosecutor. I asked him if I could actually go to jail which he was honest and told me exactly what I didn’t want to hear. I explained everything that happened as I did above and put my faith in hopes that he wouldn’t live up to everything I had heard about public defenders. When he came out to my surprise he had really went to bat for me. The prosecutor agreed to no jail time and one year non-reporting probation. Also of course I had fines,10 hours of community service or $100 instead and a remedial driving course. And 6 month driving suspension which was the worst for me being I have a job and kids so not being able to drive is a problem. But when we went before the judge he wasn’t done. He ended up getting me driving privileges for just about anything I can imagine needing them for. Work, appointments, kids school and extra activities, grocery store. In a nut shell it wasn’t something I had to worry about anymore. I feel he did as much for me as any private lawyer I could have hired and would have paid over $1000 for. I am incredibly grateful for his help. I don’t even wanna think about how bad it could have gone without him. Hopefully I won’t need a lawyer anytime soon for anything. But I will say if there is a next time that I do, he will 100% be my first phone call!!!
