Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in Volusia County, Florida?

Florida reduced its personal injury statute of limitations from four years to two years effective March 2023. Claims arising before that date may have different deadlines, so the applicable cutoff depends on when the injury occurred. In Volusia County, personal injury civil suits are filed in the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court. Missing the deadline permanently bars your claim, making prompt legal consultation essential after any accident in the DeLand area.

Can I pursue both a personal injury claim and a divorce proceeding at the same time in Florida?

Yes, these are separate legal proceedings handled by different divisions of the circuit court, and there is no legal barrier to pursuing both simultaneously. However, the financial implications can overlap — personal injury settlements received during a marriage may be treated as marital assets in some circumstances, and a skilled attorney can help structure both matters to protect your overall interests. Having one attorney familiar with both areas, or attorneys who communicate well, is particularly valuable in this situation.

Christine Aung is an exceptional attorney who truly went above and beyond during my high-conflict divorce. From our very first meeting, it was clear that her knowledge and expertise in family law were second to none. What stood out even more, though, was her ability to strike the perfect balance between being a compassionate source of support and a fierce advocate on my behalf.

Christine Aung and Valerie were a Godsend in my divorce ! After being misrepresented by a previous attorney, Christine took on my divorce case, picked up the pieces and handled everything completely and professionally. Christine always answers her cell phone when you have questions or need advice. She is a wealth of information and guided me through every step of the process.

Hands down the best family lawyer Mrs Aung she fights for what’s right and not what the law says if I ever need her for anything else I’ll be sure to call her. Mrs Aung is the best I’m soo glad I chose her to do my case ❤️❤️

Christine made me feel comfortable immediately upon sitting down with her.

Christine was informative in the beginning when she took my fee, but wasn’t truthful & informative as we went along! My wife & I wanted to negotiate a settlement out of court , but Ms Aung & her paralegal insisted on going to court for more money, when trial, was scheduled for six months later! Made no sense, except for obvious reasons!

My ex has made my life a mess. Atty Christine Aung and her assistant Valerie did what they could to make the divorce go as smoothly as can be expected in what can only be described as a sh•show thanks to the governor of Florida. She got as fair of an outcome as I could have gotten due to my marriage apparently being ‘short term’. I recommend her as a very knowledgeable attorney who fought for me as best as she could within the confines of the law.

I am incredibly grateful to have had Christine represent me during my divorce. From the very beginning, she demonstrated exceptional professionalism, empathy, and expertise. Navigating a divorce is never easy, but Christine made the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
