Frequently Asked Questions

How does California determine child custody in a Redding divorce?

California courts decide custody based on the best interests of the child, weighing factors such as each parent’s health, the child’s ties to home and school, and any history of domestic violence or substance abuse. Shasta County courts encourage parents to reach agreements through mediation before asking a judge to decide; when they cannot agree, the judge makes the final custody determination.

What is the difference between legal custody and physical custody in California?

Legal custody refers to the right to make decisions about the child’s education, healthcare, and welfare. Physical custody determines where the child lives. California courts commonly award joint legal custody while granting primary physical custody to one parent with visitation rights for the other, though 50/50 physical custody arrangements are increasingly common in Shasta County when both parents are fit and local.

Decided she doesn’t want to handle family law cases anymore and dropped me. Refused to answer basic question about relevance. Charged me a ton of money and is refusing to give me my entire file. Charged me for things they didn’t do. Is unresponsive to inquiries about where my file is. They over Charged me and have done NOTHING for my case. Amber Lane is an unprofessional thief.

I contacted Lane and Brown Attorneys after I received surprise divorce notice. They made the most miserable time in my life, tolerable. They kept me informed and reassured me throughout the entire process they were extremely professional and I couldn’t have asked for a better attorney.

Was appointed to Lane.

I had a traffic citation mailed to me while I was driving through the area on a trip to San Francisco from 6+ months ago. Since I was traveling out-of-state, I was in search of a firm that would represent me since I could not represent myself in person. This is where I found Lane & Brown Attorneys at Law.

Lane and Brown recently represented me in a traffic court case where I was speeding. I am from NYC and needed local representation. I found Josh Brown to be very courteous and honest. He did not sugar coat anything and Laid it out on the table for me. The outcome was better then I could have asked for, where he went to court on my behalf and the officer who cited the violation did not appear. The fee was very reasonable and the service was very professional and would use him and recommend him to anyone in Ca.

Josh did an amazing job handling my traffic offence (100 mph). Since I couldn’t visit Redding in person, Josh represented me throughout the process and took care of all court appearances and made the process smooth and simple for me. The case was eventually dismissed!

I was represented extremely well by this team. The team had great knowledge and a really good feel for the courts that made me comfortable going into process. All my questions were answered thoroughly and quickly so I knew exactly what to expect at every juncture. Most importantly this team took the time to understand my situation and wants got me the timeshare and custody so I can be with my child.
